The raw mineral of Duan Clay is referred to as "Aged Tuan Clay." It is mined from the original ore veins of Huanglong Mountain in Yixing, Jiangsu Province.
The raw ore appears nearly white, interspersed with dark green spots. Not only can it be used as the primary clay body for pottery, but it can also be ground and sieved into fine particles to be used for the "sand-mixing" technique, which enhances texture.
After firing, it takes on a light goose-yellow hue, containing a slight amount of red speckles. The clay contains relatively large particles, resulting in a loose structure. This gives the teapot a distinct double-porosity, which promotes excellent air circulation.
With prolonged use, the teapot gradually develops a beautiful patina, and its transformation over time is remarkable. It is considered an excellent clay for nurturing teapots and is superb for brewing tea.
